This is
really a social get together attended by members, their
families and friends. This year the organizing sub committee
chose the pool area of the Maritime Hotel in MELLIEHA. It
was the perfect setting for a wonderful evening with
friendly staff serving up some excellent food.
The number
of members attending was satisfactory but it could have been
much better. Paul Caruana’s band entertained those present
with a mixture of modern and classical music.
This event
also serves to present the MFRA’s annual awards. The
President of the Association, Lawrence Sammut announced the
following awards:
“Gieh l-Ghaqda”
was given to Joe Rapa. Former referee and businessman has
been a great help co-sponsoring uniforms and training gear.
Ian Pace
award went to young referee Roberto Vella. This award was
instituted in honor of Ian Pace, a trainee referee was
killed in a traffic accident.
The Junior
Referee Award which was instituted around forty years ago to
honor young referees progressing in their career went to
Chris Francalanza.
The
evening was rounded off with a memento presented to new FIFA
referee Marco Borg. He joined the international panel in
January this year.
